Reflecting on 2023: Paving the Way for a Remarkable 2024

Welcome back, fitness enthusiasts and goal-setters! Yesterday, we began our journey of embracing December, a month filled with opportunities for reflection, planning, and transformation. If you missed it, read it HERE. Today, we’re diving even deeper into the significance of reflection and how it can set the stage for an extraordinary 2024.

The Power of Reflection:

Reflection isn’t just a nostalgic exercise—it’s a vital tool for personal growth. When we look back on the past year, we gain valuable insights that can help us make more informed decisions in the year to come.

Health and Fitness:

Take a moment to consider your health and fitness journey in 2023:

  • Did you achieve the fitness goals you set for yourself?
  • Were there moments when you prioritized self-care and well-being, and how did that impact your overall health?
  • Did you identify any habits or patterns that held you back from reaching your full potential?

For example, perhaps you realized that inconsistent workout routines hindered your progress. In 2024, you can set a goal of consistent exercise by establishing a weekly workout schedule and sticking to it. Really think about this, what went well and what went good. It will help with our planning later.

Family Time:

Family time is precious, but it’s easy to let it slip away amidst our busy lives. I can be guilty at times of working and training long hours but in recent years I have found a balance. I love my family and through reflecting on this, I now have a plan to create balance. Answer these;

  • Did you spend quality time with loved ones, creating lasting memories?
  • Were there occasions when work or other commitments took precedence over family moments?
  • Did you discover areas where you could improve your work-life-family balance?

Reflecting on your family time might reveal a desire to prioritize family dinners, game nights, or weekend outings in 2024.

Financial Situations:

Our financial well-being impacts many aspects of our lives. It can create stress, sad times and arguments with loved ones but when we prioritise our physical and financial health, you’d be surprised how easy it is;

  • How did your financial situation evolve in 2023?
  • Did you save or invest wisely, or were there areas where financial management could be improved?
  • Were there unexpected expenses that caught you off guard?

Perhaps you realized that a more structured budget could provide financial stability. In 2024, you can set a goal to create a comprehensive budget and stick to it. Money is on everyones mind but money will never be there if we don’t have a plan to have it. Similar to a 6 pack (lol), it doesn’t just appear.

Setting Goals for 2024:

Now that you’ve reflected on 2023 and identified areas for improvement, it’s time to set goals for 2024. Rather than overwhelming yourself with vague resolutions, break your goals down into quarterly milestones.

Example: Fitness Goal

Quarter 1 (January-March): Establish a consistent workout routine, attending gym sessions three times a week or walk every day or raise your heart rate over 120 bpm for 30min 3 times per week.

Quarter 2 (April-June): Improve overall strength and endurance by setting specific strength and cardio targets. The key word is specific here! I want to loose weight vs I want to loose 6lbs before June. I want to get stronger vs I want to be able to squat my body weight. Be specific!

Quarter 3 (July-September): Focus on nutritional habits, incorporating more whole foods and reducing processed snacks. So EASY. It’s a habit, reduce your processed food intake to 20% and add quality years to your life.

Quarter 4 (October-December): Aim for a specific fitness achievement, like running a 10K or deadlifting twice your body weight.

By setting quarterly goals, you create a clear path to success, making it easier to track progress and stay motivated throughout the year.
