It’s the Tuesday after a bank holiday weekend.
And I’ll be honest — I’m wrecked.
Not sore. Not physically ruined. Just… flat.
Mentally tired. Foggy. And totally unmotivated to train.
If I’m being real, even moving through tasks at work today feels like a bit of a slog.
This might sound strange coming from someone who’s usually full of energy, routine, and structure. But this is the stuff we don’t always talk about — especially in the fitness world, where we’re meant to be motivated 24/7, right?
What Happened?
I had a race at the weekend.
It went well, but it drained me. Not just physically — mentally.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been thriving with training and work. I’ve felt switched on, productive, focused, and strong.
And then… today happened.
Zip. No motivation.
No drive. No real spark.
Just a tired head and a body that doesn’t want to do much.
And if you’ve ever felt that too — you’re not alone.
What This Isn’t
- It’s not a sign of failure.
- It’s not laziness.
- It doesn’t mean “you’ve lost it.”
It’s a signal. A sign your body and brain need a pause. A recalibration. A step back so you can step forward again.
Here’s What I’m Doing Next (And What You Can Try Too)
✅ 1. Acknowledge It Without Overreacting
Today isn’t my new normal.
It’s one off-day in a sea of productive weeks.
So I’m not panicking — I’m just recognising what it is and letting it pass.
Try this: If you’re feeling off, don’t catastrophise it. Give yourself the space to just be where you are for a day.
✅ 2. Lower the Bar, But Still Move
I won’t skip training entirely — but I’ll adjust.
Maybe it’s just a light gym session. A walk. Something small to remind my body I care about it — without demanding too much.
Try this: If motivation is low, don’t aim for perfection. Just aim for presence. Do something instead of nothing.
✅ 3. Do One Small Win at Work
Right now, every task feels a little harder. So I’m not pushing through a long to-do list. I’m picking one thing I can complete properly — and letting that be enough.
Try this: Pick one thing to finish today. Check it off. That momentum builds faster than you think.
✅ 4. Reflect on What’s Been Working
The last few weeks have been great. So instead of focusing on today’s drop, I’m looking back at what’s gone well and why — because those systems still work.
Try this: Write down 3 things that have worked for you lately. Use them to reset, not retreat.
Final Thought
Even coaches, trainers, and gym owners have off days.
Even when everything “should” be fine, motivation can dip.
It doesn’t mean anything’s broken — it just means you’re human.
If today’s been a tough one for you too, take a breath.
Don’t quit. Just adjust. Reset. And go again tomorrow.
