John O’Brien’s Journey at Evolution Fitness: From Busy Dad to Fit and Energised

In August 2024, John O’Brien made the decision to prioritise his health and fitness by joining Evolution Fitness. As a father to a newborn and a shift worker, John faced the challenge of finding a gym in Tralee that could not only provide effective coaching but also the accountability he needed to stay on track. After seeing his previous gym membership go to waste, he knew it was time for a change.

Finding the Right Fit

When John first joined, we started with a realistic commitment of two sessions a week, tailored to fit his busy schedule. After a few weeks, as we worked together to get on top of his routine, we increased it to three sessions a week.

As a busy father and shift worker, John’s biggest accomplishment has been consistently making time for himself.

“I’m proud that I’m making the time to train and plan my meals.”

This consistency has not only improved his physical health but also his mental well-being, allowing him to show up as the best version of himself at home and work.

Overcoming Challenges

Of course, no journey is without its challenges. For John, the biggest hurdle has been preparing meals and sticking to a diet that supports his goals.

“Preparing my meals and the diet to cut a few pounds has been the hardest part,” he admits.

But with the right guidance and a structured approach, John has been able to stay on track and make steady progress.

Goals for the Future

Looking ahead, John has set his sights on continuing to improve his fitness and tackling a big goal: climbing Mount Brandon.

“I want to keep going in the right direction with my training and climb Mount Brandon in the near future.”

His commitment to progress—both inside and outside the gym—is inspiring and shows the power of setting meaningful goals.

Advice to Others: Just Start

For anyone hesitating to start their fitness journey, John’s advice is simple but powerful:

“Just start. Stop putting it off. Once you start, everything else will fall into place.”
